Maurice Tournu founded Le Dauphin in 1966 as a small lampshade workshop in Saint-Marcellin, France, and by the 1970s it had grown into one of the more prolific French decorative lighting houses of the era, known for pairing sculptural glass and ceramic forms with brass fittings. Horse heads were one of the recurring subjects the workshop returned to, cast in satin glass rather than the metal used for the base — a deliberate contrast between the cool, frosted translucency of the glass and the warm shine of the brass beneath it.

This pair keeps that pairing intact: each horse head rendered with real sculptural depth in the mane and facial planes, mounted on a rectangular brass base with a curved brass arm rising to the socket. Both lamps carry the maker's oval label reading "Le Dauphin FRANCE" on the base, along with a signature on the reverse — the kind of documentation that lets this be described as a confirmed Le Dauphin piece rather than one attributed by style alone.

The brass shows light patina consistent with genuine age rather than recent handling, and the glass on both lamps is free of chips or cracks. At 29 cm tall on a 12 cm square base, the pair works well flanking a bed or sofa rather than needing a single large surface.
