Pair of Antique Louis XVI Style Gilt Bronze Candle Sconces, Ribbon Bow and Tassels with Fluted Arms, Two Lights, Late 1800s
A broad ribbon bow crowns each of these sconces, its loops crisply pleated and its tails draped down over a slender bundle of fluted reeds bound at the middle with a twisted band. Below the band, the bundle splays out and ends in two tasselled cords, the kind of passementerie detail beloved of Louis XVI design. From the band, two fluted arms curve up and out to round drip pans edged with leaves and swirling gadrooned candle cups. The bronze is heavy and finely chased, with a mellow gold patina. These are original candle sconces, made to hold real tapers, and they bring a quiet, candlelit elegance to either side of a mirror, a bed or a fireplace.
Condition: Good Antique Condition, with a warm original patina and minimal signs of use.
