Pair of Antique Patinated Bronze Busts, Elderly Vietnamese Man and Woman in Traditional Khan Turbans, circa 1900
An elderly couple face the world with calm, weathered dignity. The man has a long, wispy beard and moustache, and his eyes are softly closed as if in thought. The woman wears a gentle, knowing half-smile, her face lined with years of laughter and work. Both wear the traditional wrapped turban (khăn vấn) and simple robes of Vietnam, his fastened at the shoulder and hers open at the neck. The sculptor brought out every fold of skin and fabric with real warmth and close observation. A deep brown patina, rubbed to warm gold on the brows, cheekbones and turbans, gives the faces a living glow. Small and intimate, they make a touching pair for a bookshelf, a desk or a collection of portrait sculpture.
Condition: Good Antique Condition, with an original patina and light wear consistent with age, as pictured.
