Robert de Schuytener worked squarely within that spirit, pairing burl wood's rich, swirling grain with crisp brass banding in furniture and lighting built to feel substantial rather than fashionable, the kind of piece meant to outlast the decade that produced it. This pair carries that philosophy through every element, from the square, brass-edged burl base to the wide, gently curved shades that catch and soften the light above. It evokes the atmosphere of a well-appointed French study or living room from the period, a desk stacked with correspondence, or a sofa flanked by exactly this kind of confident, grounded lighting.
