Look closely and the small gold stars scattered across these shades begin to feel less like decoration and more like a tiny private sky, caught and held inside milky white glass. That kind of playful, almost whimsical detail was very much of its moment — by the 1960s, lighting design had shed the heavier, more formal habits of earlier decades and embraced a lighter touch: bulbous opaline forms, slender tapering metal, a sense of optimism built right into the shape of the object. Opaline glass itself has a much older pedigree, prized since the nineteenth century for the way it softens and diffuses light rather than simply transmitting it, and here that same soft glow rises from a base of gleaming chrome, cool metal meeting warm, star-flecked glass. One can imagine these sconces first mounted in a hallway or bedroom at the height of that decade, throwing a gentle, cosy light across evenings spent at home, the kind of illumination meant to soothe rather than dazzle. Brought together today as a matched pair, they still perform that same quiet trick — cool chrome, warm light, and a scattering of gold stars overhead, ready to bring that same sense of calm into a room once again.

Each sconce has a bulbous, opaline white glass shade decorated with small gold star motifs, mounted on a slender, tapering chrome arm rising from a round wall-mounted rosette. Both sconces in the pair are identical in form and finish, with a scalloped edge to the glass shade.

This is offered as a matched pair of wall sconces, fitted for a standard E14 bulb (please verify before installation). They are in good general condition, with light traces of wear consistent with age.
