Vintage Art Deco Spelter Sculpture of a Kneeling Woman with Two Leaping Greyhounds on Marble Base1920s French Statue

Two greyhounds spring forward on their hind legs, straining to run, while a young woman drops to one knee and leans back to hold them, her arms stretched out on their leads. Her scarf streams behind her, her short tunic is caught in motion, and her hair is wrapped close in a 1920s band. The whole scene is full of speed and energy. The dogs are beautifully observed: lean bodies, narrow heads and long, reaching legs. Cast in spelter (régule) with a soft, time-worn bronze patina, the group stands on a long stepped base of grey, cream and black-and-gold marble. It’s a classic Art Deco mantel sculpture, and a lovely piece for any sighthound lover.

Condition: Good Vintage Condition. The spelter is sound and well fixed, with no breaks or restorations, and has a natural patina. The marble base is undamaged. One of the two leads is missing, as pictured.
