Vintage Brass-Toned Bouillotte Lamp Base, French Style, Convertible Candle Holder, 1950s
Before it was ever wired for electricity, the bouillotte was a candlestick built for a card table — two arms holding real candles, and a ring handle at the center so the whole thing could be carried from room to room without burning your fingers. Once electric lighting arrived, French makers converted the same form into a lamp base almost without changing it, wiring sockets into the candle cups and leaving the handle purely decorative. This base carries that same double history: built as a candelabra, later fitted for electric use.
The circular, tiered brass-toned base carries two curved arms rising to candle-style drip pans, with the original ring handle still sitting between them. Its lamp sockets remain in place from that earlier conversion, and the piece is being rewired before it ships, so it arrives ready either to take a shade of your choosing or to be left bare as a sculptural candle holder — the option the form was originally built for in the first place.
The lamp base presents in very good vintage condition, with age-related patina and light surface wear consistent with its history.
