By the 1950s, a generation of postwar designers had grown tired of ornament for its own sake and began reducing the wall light to its essentials — a single gesture of metal rising from a disc, with none of the scrollwork or foliage of the century before. This pair belongs to that turn toward line over decoration, the candle sconce distilled down to a taper and a point.

Each sconce rises from a fluted brass cup on a circular backplate, the stem drawing out into a long, needle-like point — note how the taper narrows continuously from base to tip, without the stepped transitions of a cast piece, the mark of a stem that was turned and drawn rather than molded. The two together read as a matched study in restraint: identical in scale and line, meant to be hung as a pair rather than admired singly. These arrive without a glass shade, sold as the metalwork alone, ready to be paired with a shade of your own choosing or left bare for a starker, more architectural look.

Whoever owned this pair before you kept them well. The brass shows only light, honest wear consistent with age, with no damage or repairs to either stem. Hung together on either side of a mirror or along a hallway, they bring a quiet symmetry to the wall.

Each sconce arrives professionally packed and fully insured — we handle the paperwork and worldwide shipping. Returns are accepted within 30 days.
