The rope-and-tassel motif is one of French decorative arts' more literal jokes — a length of rope, cast permanently in solid metal, knotted and finished with a tassel that will never sway again. It began as an 18th-century flourish and never really left French lighting design, turning up again and again on sconces exactly like these, where a "rope" of brass twists down from a knot to a weighted tassel at its foot.

Each sconce in this set of three carries two curved arms that spring from a central knot, as though the rope itself has been bent to hold a light on either side. The arms rise to flared bobeches and candle-style sockets with fluted detailing, while above the knot, a small carved rosette finishes the top of the piece. Below, the rope continues down into a tasseled point, giving each sconce a clear sense of top and bottom rather than pure symmetry. Sold as a set of three — six lights in total — they suit a dining room, stairwell, or any wall with enough width to let the rhythm of three pieces read properly.

The set presents in good vintage condition, the brass holding a warm, consistent tone across all three sconces.
