Vintage Double Inkwell Desk Stand with Gilt Metal Eagle Pocket Watch Holder on Veined Stone Block, Napoleon III Style

A gilt eagle with spread wings rises at the centre of this desk stand, holding a small hook for a pocket watch. On either side, a domed inkwell waits for a pen.

The stand has a rectangular wooden base with a moulded edge, raised on four block feet. In the centre, a dark veined stone block supports a gilt metal eagle with outspread wings and a hanging hook. Two gilt metal inkwells with domed lids and pierced galleries sit on either side, each with a small gilt pen rest beside it. Before wristwatches, a gentleman would hang his pocket watch on a stand like this at his desk or by his bed. That turned it into a small clock he could read at a glance.

The desk stand is in good vintage condition. It's been on many desks in its time, and it's ready for one more. It suits a writing desk, a library table or a study shelf. Hang a pocket watch on the hook, or let the eagle stand alone.
