Vintage Five-Light Floral Wall Sconce, Florentine Hollywood Regency Style, Gilt Leaves and Textured Glass Tulips, 58 cm
For centuries, the workshops of Florence have been known for turning metal into flowers. Craftsmen cut thin sheet metal into leaves and petals, shaped them by hand and finished them in gold, creating light fittings that look like bouquets frozen in metal. In the mid-twentieth century, this Florentine style was taken up by Hollywood Regency designers, who loved its glamour and gold.
This large wall sconce is a full bouquet of light. Five slender patinated metal stems rise from a large gilt flower that sits against the wall. Gilt leaves sprout along each stem, and every stem ends in a clear textured glass tulip shade with softly pointed petals. The leaves are made in tôle, thin sheet metal cut, shaped and gilded, a craft long associated with Florence. Together, the dark stems, golden leaves and glowing glass make a striking display, whether the lights are on or off.
The sconce is in good overall condition, as pictured. Like every lamp we sell, it is checked in our workshop before it is sent, so it arrives ready to use. Its size makes it a true centrepiece for a wall in a living room, a dining room or a hallway.
In short, this is a vintage five-light floral wall sconce in the Florentine and Hollywood Regency style, with patinated metal stems, gilt leaves and textured glass tulip shades. It is 58 cm tall and exactly as pictured.
