Vintage Louis XVI Style Single Two-Arm Silver-Tone Wall Sconce with Fluted Torch and Palmette Drip Pans
Silver-tone metal with a soft, worn sheen makes this sconce a cool alternative to the usual gilt. It's a good choice for a grey, blue or white room.
The sconce is a single wall light with two arms. Its centre is a tapering fluted torch, and strings of small leaves run down the flutes. A leafy urn finial sits at the top, and a flower-cluster drop finishes the bottom. Two acanthus-scrolled arms curl out from the collar, each ending in a round drip pan with a beaded edge and a cream candle sleeve. The drip pans are cast with a fan of radiating leaves called a palmette. It's a motif borrowed from ancient Greek ornament and based on the spreading leaves of the palm.
The sconce is in good vintage condition. The silver-tone finish is worn, and the warm base metal shows through, most of all on the torch. The candle sleeves show light marks. The old wiring reaches us as found. With care, it's ready for many more years of use. Hang it beside a mirror, above a console table, or at the end of a hallway.
