There's a symmetry to the Louis XVI style that's easy to spot once you know to look for it: everything balanced around a central axis, nothing tipping too far to one side. This pair of sconces follows that logic exactly — each fixture built around an ornate central backplate, with two scrolling arms extending outward in a mirrored curve to hold their lights on either side.

Look at the scrollwork closely and you'll see how much is happening in a small space: the arms curl back on themselves in a tight, confident spiral, each ending in a fluted bobeche shaped to catch and hold the light. It's the kind of detailing that was originally made for candlelight, meant to throw flickering shadows across a wall, and translates just as beautifully now that it's carrying an electric bulb.

Sconces like these carry the Louis XVI style's late-18th-century French DNA forward through generations of European lighting — restrained ornament, careful symmetry, a look built to convey quiet refinement rather than showiness. Sold and made as a genuine matching pair, they were designed to be seen together, framing a mirror, flanking a fireplace, or lighting a hallway from both sides at once.

This pair presents in good vintage condition, with age-appropriate wear consistent with careful use over time — the kind of soft polish that only develops after decades on a wall rather than in a box. They arrive ready for wall mounting.
