Two horses stand calmly side by side, heads lowered a little and manes falling along their necks. Placed at each end of a shelf, they face each other across a row of books.

Each bookend shows a standing horse in bronze-tone metal, with clearly modelled muscles, mane and tail. The horses are mirror images, and each stands on a heavy rectangular base of black marble with white veins. One base carries a small gold label reading "Marbre véritable" (genuine marble). The white veins running through black marble formed over millions of years, as mineral-rich water seeped into cracks in the stone and left behind bright lines of calcite.

The bookends are in good vintage condition, with some signs of use and patina. They have held up books in other libraries for years, and they're ready for yours. They suit a bookshelf, a desk or a mantelpiece, and they make a good gift for anyone who loves horses.
