Vintage Susse Freres Gilt Bronze Dog FigurinePlayful Pekingese in Play Bow with Plumed Tail, Foundry Marked, French Desk Decor

Front legs stretched flat, hindquarters in the air and plumed tail curled high over his back, this little dog has dropped into a play bow, the universal invitation to come and play. He looks up with a slightly cross, comically serious face, framed by long feathered ears, and every lock of his long coat is crisply cast and chased. Small dogs like this were a speciality of Susse Frères, the Paris foundry that cast bronzes for leading French sculptors from the 19th century onward, and this one carries the foundry’s stamp underneath. The rich gilding glows warm gold all over. He’s small and heavy enough to work as a paperweight, and he makes a charming companion on a desk or a delightful gift for a lover of small dogs.

Condition: Very Good Vintage Condition, with a warm, even gilt finish and light wear consistent with age.
