Willy Rizzo spent the first half of his career behind a camera, photographing Sophia Loren, Brigitte Bardot, and the rest of the jet-set circuit before turning to furniture design in the 1970s — which may explain why his lamps read less like traditional lighting and more like something staged for a photograph. This piece works in that same architectural vein: a faceted brass column built from vertical panels that overlap and separate like the setback tiers of a skyscraper, rising from a solid square base.

The column does real structural work rather than acting as pure decoration — it holds two independent E27 bulb sockets, each on its own pull-chain switch, so the two sides of the lamp can be lit separately depending on how much light a room actually needs. The caramel fabric shade sits above it doing the opposite job of the brass below: softening rather than showing off, letting the column stay the visual focus.
