Art Deco Ceramic SculptureDeer and Dog — Signed ODYV, French, 1930s
Delivered free · US duties paid · Insured
The Art Deco decade produced a distinctive strain of French ceramic sculpture built around stylized animal groupings, and the Vierzon workshops known by the mark ODYV were among its notable practitioners. Their signature technique, a wax-based glaze called "crispée," left a fine, granular texture across the surface rather than a smooth glaze — a deliberate departure from conventional ceramic finishing that gave the figures a matte, almost stone-like presence.

This sculpture, French, 1930s, groups a deer and dog together in mid-motion on a rectangular base, both rendered in that characteristic crispée texture. Note how the stippled surface follows the contour of each animal's form individually — thicker across the haunches, finer along the legs and muzzle — rather than applied as a uniform coating, the kind of controlled variation that separates true crispée work from a simpler textured glaze. The piece is signed ODYV, the mark of the Berlot and Mussier workshop.
Whoever displayed this sculpture before you kept it well. The ceramic shows honest wear consistent with its age, with the crispée texture and sculptural detail intact throughout. It is ready for a mantel, console, or display shelf.
It arrives professionally packed and fully insured — we handle the paperwork and worldwide shipping. Returns are accepted within 30 days.
