Bronze Greyhound SculptureRecumbent Whippet Dog Figurine with Collar, Dark Patina — European
Delivered free · US duties paid · Insured
The recumbent greyhound is one of the oldest poses in animal sculpture: the hound at rest but alert, forelegs crossed, head up — the companion of princes rendered as an emblem of loyalty and watchfulness. From tomb sculpture to the writing desks of the nineteenth century, the resting hound kept its place wherever an owner wanted a quiet, faithful presence within reach of the hand.

Cast bronze, brown patina; stamped number 2251 to underside
Condition: very good condition; deep even patina with honest rubbing to handling points
This greyhound is cast in bronze with a deep brown patina, modelled at rest with the forelegs elegantly crossed and the head turned attentively over them, wearing a collar with a suspension ring at the throat. The underside is stamped with the number 2251. Turn the figure over and the handling points show warm golden metal beneath the patina — the quick check by which one separates a true copper-alloy cast from the grey of a cheaper white-metal one. The modelling holds detail down to the toes and the ribs beneath the coat, and the whole piece has the satisfying weight of solid casting in the hand.
The patina is deep and even, with honest rubbing at the points where the figure has been picked up for generations, and the piece sits flat and stable. Whoever kept this hound at their desk before you kept it well. It is at home on a desk, a library shelf, or a mantel.
The figure is solid cast bronze with a hand-applied patina, stamped with its number to the underside. It arrives professionally packed and fully insured — worldwide shipping and US import duties are included. For other destinations, local import taxes and duties may apply and are payable by the recipient. Returns are accepted within 30 days.
