The Corinthian column is the most ornate of the classical orders — the one crowned in carved acanthus leaves — and when the neoclassical taste took hold of the desk lamp, it was the order makers reached for when they wanted a small object to carry real presence. A fluted shaft, a leafy capital, a stepped plinth: the grammar of a monument, scaled to sit beside an inkwell.

This lamp base is French, in Brass: a finely reeded column rising to a cast Corinthian capital with acanthus ornament, standing on a boldly stepped square plinth. Count the steps of the base — five clean setbacks from table to column foot — a small architectural flourish that gives the lamp its monumental stance, and precisely the detail that separates a considered design from a plain rod on a block. The lamp is fully restored through our workshop before dispatch: newly wired, assembled and secured, fitted with the appropriate plug or adapter for your country, and delivered ready to use. It is sold as a lamp base, without shade.

The metal shows marks of use, including a small deformation to the edge of the column foot and light wear to the plinth, stated plainly and shown in the photographs. Whoever worked in this lamp's light before you kept it long enough to hand on. It suits a desk, a library shelf, or a hallway console.

The base weighs around a kilogram in metal and stands 32 centimetres to the socket, restored and rewired before dispatch. It arrives professionally packed and fully insured — worldwide shipping and US import duties are included. For other destinations, local import taxes and duties may apply and are payable by the recipient. Returns are accepted within 30 days.
