The single-arm sconce with an oval backplate is one of the Louis XVI style's most enduring designs — the wall light reduced to its essentials and then finished as if it were jewellery: a beaded frame, a textured ground, one scrolled arm carrying one candle. These were made for rooms that needed light in rhythm — spaced down a corridor, around a dining room, up a stair — which is why they were sold in whatever number the walls demanded, and why a matched run of three is exactly as the type was meant to be used.

This is a set of three matching sconces in the Louis XVI style, in gilt metal, notably solid and well finished: each an oval backplate with a beaded rim enclosing a finely grained guilloché-textured ground, from which a reeded, scrolled arm sweeps forward and up to a leaf-cast drip pan, a fluted candle socket, and a wax-drip sleeve. Hold one against the light and look at the backplate's ground — the fine, even graining is worked into the metal to catch light softly across the whole oval, so the plate glows rather than glares behind the candle, a finishing step plain stamped plates skip. All three match. The set is fully rewired through our workshop before dispatch and arrives prepared for wall installation, in working order.

The gilt surfaces are in excellent condition across all three, bright and even with no losses, as the photographs show. Whoever spaced these three along their wall before you kept the run complete. They are ready for a corridor, a dining room, or three beats up a staircase.
