Pair of Antique Bronze Mirrored Wall Sconces, Three-Light Girandoles with Rabbits, Winged Bird Crest and Beveled Glass, 1890s
Look closely at the pierced bronze frames and you’ll find a whole menagerie. Two little rabbits sit up on the shoulders of each frame, a winged bird spreads its feathers at the crest beneath a hanging ring, and a carved mask peers out at the base among curling leaves. At the centre of each sits an arched mirror with a bevelled edge, framed in rope twist. It catches the glow of the three candle lights below and doubles it, just as girandoles did in candlelit rooms. Three leafy arms sweep out to beaded cups and scalloped drip pans. At over 15 inches tall and weighing more than 5 pounds each, they bring real drama to a dining room, a long hallway or either side of a fireplace.
Condition: Good Antique Condition, with a natural patina to the bronze and minor desilvering to the mirror glass consistent with age, as pictured.
