There is a particular elegance to the greyhound as an Art Deco subject — all long lines and quiet alertness, a breed that seems built for exactly the kind of streamlined, modernist sculpture the period favored. This pair captures that character well, each dog standing with head lowered toward its marble slab, collar visible at the neck, tail extended in a long curve behind. Set on a bookshelf or desk, they bring genuine period charm to the room, the kind of found object that carries its own history in every mark and worn edge.
Each bookend depicts a standing greyhound, rendered in spelter (régule) with a bronze-toned patina, mounted on a rectangular black marble base. The dogs are shown with collars at the neck, in a naturalistic standing pose with head lowered. Some wear is visible to the figures and to the marble bases, consistent with genuine age and use, as shown in the photos.
