Pair of Vintage 1970s Small Bronze Single-Arm Wall SconcesLouis XV Style Rocaille Shell Backplate, Acanthus Bobeche, Candle Lights

Small in size but heavy in the hand, these sconces are cast in solid bronze, and at well over a pound each they feel far more substantial than they look. Each backplate is a compact cartouche of swirling rocaille: a fan-shaped shell, curling acanthus leaves and a little scroll tail at the base. A short, stout arm curves up from it to a deeply ruffled acanthus bobeche holding an ivory candle sleeve with sculpted drips. The gilt finish has darkened softly in the recesses, which brings out the depth of the casting. At under 7 inches tall, they fit where larger sconces can’t: beside a bathroom mirror, flanking a narrow doorway or along a staircase.

Condition: Very Good Vintage Condition, with a warm, natural patina consistent with age.
