Pair of Vintage Louis XV Style Bronze Wall Sconces, Two-Arm Lyre Backplate with Palmette Crest and Scrolling Acanthus Arms
Each backplate is shaped like an open lyre, its sides curving in rocaille scrolls up to a crest of palmette leaves. Inside the frame, more delicate scrolls frame a central urn with a pointed pendant drop below. From the urn, two arms swing out in leafy S-curves and rise into acanthus cups holding ivory candle sleeves with sculpted drips. The gilt finish has softened in places, so a pale silvery tone shows through on the high points, giving them a gentle, aged elegance rather than a showy shine. They’re well proportioned for either side of a mirror, a bed or a doorway.
Condition: Good Vintage Condition, with wear to the gilt finish revealing a paler tone on the high points, especially on one sconce, as pictured.
