Vintage Art Deco Spelter Sculpture of Pan Playing Pipes with Leaping Goat, Silver and Gold Finish on Onyx and Black Marble Base
Kicking up his heels with one arm flung to the sky, young Pan dances barefoot while playing his pipes, and a little golden goat rears up on its hind legs to join in. The whole scene bursts with the joyful energy of the 1930s. The silver-toned faun, wrapped in a dark animal-skin loincloth, contrasts with the gilded kid, and both figures stand on a striking two-tier base: pale green and amber onyx above, black marble veined with gold below. A wonderfully lively centrepiece for a mantel or a console.
Condition: Good Vintage Condition. The figures were repainted at some point. Pan’s foot was once broken and has been neatly repaired; the repair is only slightly visible, as pictured.
