Vintage Brass Wall Sconce with Glass Bobèches and Faceted Glass DropsRococo Style Scrolled Backplate, Two Lights, 32 cm

The wall sconce has always been the chandelier’s smaller relative. From the eighteenth century onward, the great glass-hung chandeliers of European salons were matched by wall lights in the same spirit, carrying the same sparkling drops onto the walls. Where a chandelier lit the centre of a room, its sconces caught the light at the edges, so that the whole space glittered.

This wall sconce follows that tradition. A scrolled brass backplate in the Rococo style holds two curving arms, each ending in a dish of clear glass with a scalloped rim. These glass bobèches were made to catch dripping wax, but in glass they also catch the light. Small faceted drops hang from the rims of the bobèches, and below each arm hangs a larger flat, leaf-shaped drop of the kind the French call a pendeloque. When the lights are on, every piece of glass adds its own sparkle.

The sconce is in good vintage condition. Its glass drops have travelled with it all these years, and we will send every one of them along with it. It brings a small touch of chandelier glamour to a powder room, a narrow landing or a bedroom.

In short, this is a vintage brass wall sconce with a Rococo style scrolled backplate, two glass bobèches and faceted glass drops. It is 32 cm wide and exactly as pictured.
