Vintage Bronze Heron Paperweight on Red Veined Marble Base, Bird with Raised Wings Among Reeds, Animalier Desk Sculpture
Wings half-raised and head bowed low, this bird seems caught in the instant before it strikes or takes flight, poised among a clump of reeds and bulrushes. Every feather is finely cast, from the layered scallops on the wings to the long flight feathers that sweep out behind. The bronze has a warm golden tone, rubbed brighter on the wing tips, and stands on a rectangular block of cream marble veined in deep red, a classic pairing for French animalier desk pieces. It’s small, weighty and full of movement, a handsome paperweight for a desk or a curiosity for a bookshelf.
Condition: Good Vintage Condition, with a natural patina to the bronze and small marks consistent with age, as pictured.
