This pair is European, and by materials and design we place it in the 1960s or 1970s — an informed estimate, as the lamps are unmarked. Each cylindrical shade is worked over its full surface in a fine tangle of raised glass threads, seated on a stepped base in polished gold-tone brass finish. Hold one up to the light, or simply look closely at the photograph — the threads cross at random, never repeating, which is how one tells glass textured in the making from a pattern pressed on afterwards.
