Vintage Mid-Century Wall Sconce, Wood and Chrome-Finish Torch Form with Textured Glass Tulip Shade, 22.5 cm
Mid-century designers loved to mix warm and cool materials. Natural wood brought warmth and a hand-made feeling, while chrome and glass added sparkle and a modern edge. Small wall lights that combined all three became a favourite in homes across Europe, especially under the influence of Scandinavian design.
This vintage wall sconce brings those materials together. A round wall plate, edged in chrome-finish metal with a wooden centre, holds a short chrome arm. The arm meets a slim, tapered wooden stem that points downward like the handle of a torch. At the top, a chrome cup holds a tulip-shaped shade of textured glass. The glass is pressed with a fine grid pattern, with a band of larger facets at the rim. The grid breaks up the glare of the bulb, so the shade glows evenly, while the faceted rim catches the light and sparkles.
The sconce is in good condition, as pictured. Like every lamp we sell, it is checked in our workshop before it is sent, so it arrives ready to use. It makes a warm bedside reading light, or a cheerful accent in a hallway.
In short, this is a vintage mid-century wall sconce in wood and chrome-finish metal, in a torch form with a textured glass tulip shade. It is 22.5 cm long and exactly as pictured.
