Vintage Pair of Chrome Wall Sconces, Attributed 1970s, White Glass Cylinder Shades with Ball Finials, 21 cm
In the 1970s, lighting design became cleaner and more graphic. Bright chrome and simple glass shapes replaced heavy ornament, and wall lights turned into neat, sculptural objects. Pairs of sconces like these gave a modern, uncluttered look to bedrooms, bathrooms-turned-dressing rooms and hallways.
This pair of wall sconces is attributed to the 1970s. Each one has a tall cylinder of white glass, with a faint vertical ribbing, held against the wall by a chrome-finish bracket. A curved chrome band wraps around the cylinder, and the base is finished with a chrome cap and a small polished ball. The white glass is milky rather than clear, so it hides the bulb and spreads the light into a soft, even glow along the whole cylinder.
The sconces show light marks of age and use. Like every lamp we sell, they are checked in our workshop before they are sent, so they arrive ready to use. They look best as a pair, on either side of a bed, a mirror or a doorway.
In short, this is a vintage pair of chrome-finish wall sconces with white glass cylinder shades and ball finials, attributed to the 1970s. Each is about 21 cm tall and exactly as pictured.
