Vintage Pair of Hollywood Regency Beaded Wall Sconces, Empire Style Tent and Bag Design, Brass Frames with Faceted Glass Drops, 42 cm
In the early nineteenth century, the Empire style brought a new kind of glittering light into European salons. Chandeliers and wall lights were hung with strands of glass beads gathered into a shape called the “tent and bag”: beads draped in a tent above, and a cluster of drops forming a bag below. A century later, Hollywood set designers revived the look for its pure glamour, and it has sparkled in elegant homes ever since.
This pair of wall sconces follows that tent-and-bag design. Each one has a brass frame decorated with bows and floral bands at the top and the base, with garlands draped across the front. From the top hang long strands of faceted glass beads, gathered toward a ring below. Beneath it falls a fringe of long glass drops. Every faceted bead and drop catches the light, so when the sconces are lit, they glow warmly and scatter sparkles across the wall.
The sconces are in good condition, with small chips to some of the long glass drops. Extra replacement drops are included, so these can be swapped in. Like every lamp we sell, they are checked in our workshop before they are sent, so they arrive ready to use. They bring a romantic glamour to a bedroom, a dressing room or a dining room.
In short, this is a vintage pair of Hollywood Regency wall sconces in the Empire tent-and-bag design, with brass frames, faceted glass beads and long glass drops. Each is 42 cm tall, and they are exactly as pictured.
