Vintage Pair of Empire Style Beaded Wall Sconces, Gilt Metal Palmette Crest with Faceted Glass Drops, 35 cm
The Empire style, born in Napoleon’s France, drew its ornament straight from ancient Greece and Rome. One of its favourite motifs was the palmette, a fan of leaves inspired by the Greek honeysuckle flower, which crowned everything from furniture to light fittings. Wall lights hung with glittering glass beads in this style became a lasting symbol of classic elegance.
This pair of wall sconces is in the Empire style. Each one is crowned with a gilt metal palmette crest, from which strands of faceted glass beads fall in a gentle tent shape to a gilt band decorated with a leaf pattern. Below the band, a curved basket is hung with long, pointed glass prisms, and a fringe of teardrop drops finishes the base. Each bead and prism has many flat faces that catch the light, so when the sconces are lit, they sparkle and cast flecks of light across the wall.
The sconces are clean and in good condition. Like every lamp we sell, they are checked in our workshop before they are sent, so they arrive ready to use. They bring a classic, romantic sparkle to a bedroom, a dressing room, a hallway or a dining room.
