Vintage Pair of Wood and Bark Glass Wall SconcesAttributed 1960s–70s, Brutalist Mid-Century Style, 28 cm

In the 1960s and 1970s, some designers turned away from smooth, polished surfaces and toward raw, natural textures. They wanted materials that felt honest and earthy: warm wood, heavy glass and surfaces that looked carved by nature. This brutalist side of mid-century design gave rooms a cosy, grounded character that is still much loved.

This pair of wall sconces is attributed to the 1960s–70s and is in that style. Each one has a wooden wall panel, folded at the sides like a shallow channel, holding a thick half-cylinder of textured glass. The glass is known as bark glass, because it is made with a deep relief that imitates the rough surface of tree bark. When the lights are on, the heavy relief breaks up the light and casts a warm, glowing pattern. The warm wood and the icy glass make a beautiful contrast.

The sconces are in very good vintage condition. The wood shows a rich depth and grain, and the glass is free of cracks and chips. Like every lamp we sell, they are checked in our workshop before they are sent, so they arrive ready to use. As a pair, they frame a bed, a sofa or a hallway beautifully.

In short, this is a vintage pair of wall sconces with wooden panels and bark glass shades, attributed to the 1960s–70s. Each panel is 28 cm tall, and they are exactly as pictured.
