Silver plating works by depositing a thin layer of real silver over a base metal through electrolysis, a process refined through the 19th century and still standard well into the 20th because it gave ordinary tableware the look of solid silver at a fraction of the cost. By the 1970s, that same plating was often paired with repoussé-style embossing — the metal worked from beneath while still soft enough to raise a pattern on the surface — which is exactly the technique behind the swirling design on this dish's lid.

The dish itself is low and footed, finished in polished silver-plated metal, topped with a fitted lid carrying that embossed swirl pattern and a small, centered knob handle for lifting. The base is hallmarked, a genuine period marking rather than a modern reproduction stamp, confirming the piece as authentically plated rather than simply painted or coated silver-tone.

The piece presents in very good vintage condition, with light age-related wear consistent with its age. The silver-plated finish holds up well throughout, on both the body and the lid.

Every item is packed individually and arrives professionally packed, fully insured — we handle the paperwork and worldwide shipping. Returns are accepted within 30 days.
