Vintage Three-Light Rococo Style Wall SconceGilt Metal Acanthus Scrolls, Candle Lights, 40 × 40 cm

In eighteenth-century Paris, the great families lived in hôtels particuliers, private town mansions with salons decorated from floor to ceiling in a single, harmonious style. Carved panelling, tall mirrors and gilt wall lights were designed to work together. Sconces were often placed beside or in front of the mirrors, so that every candle flame was doubled in the glass, and a room could glow with far more light than its candles alone would give.

This wall sconce carries that Rococo spirit. It rises from a pointed, leafy tail into a central coil of acanthus, from which three arms branch out. Two arms sweep outward to the sides, covered in curling leaves, and the third rises straight up through the middle. Each ends in a leafy, petal-edged bobèche and a candle sleeve. The gilt finish is warm and even, and the asymmetrical design gives the whole piece a sense of movement.

The sconce is in good condition, with the light marks of age you would expect. It is ready to be hung and used, not kept as a curiosity. Placed beside an overmantel mirror, its three lights will double in the glass, just as they would have in a Parisian salon.

In short, this is a vintage three-light Rococo style wall sconce in gilt metal, with acanthus scrolls and candle lights. It measures 40 × 40 cm, weighs 1.49 kg, and is exactly as pictured.
