Antique French Animalier Bronze Pointer Dog by Alfred DubucandSigned, Hunting Dog on Point with Collar, 19th Century

One forepaw lifted and tail held straight out behind, this pointer has frozen on point, nose forward and every muscle tensed, signalling game hidden in the grass ahead. Alfred Dubucand, one of the finest French animalier sculptors of the later 19th century, caught the dog’s taut, athletic stance perfectly. The deep chest, lean flanks and long ears are all modelled with real anatomical skill, and a studded collar circles the neck. The dog stands on a naturalistic base of grass and leaves, signed by the sculptor at one end. A warm golden-brown patina with darker tones in the recesses brings out every muscle. It’s a handsome piece for a desk or a library shelf, and a perfect gift for a hunter or a lover of gun dogs.

Condition: Good Antique Condition, with a natural patina and light wear to the high points consistent with age.
