The French desk lamps of the Art Deco years — the type made famous under the Mazda name — solved an old problem with a new idea: instead of pointing the bulb at the desk, they pointed it at the ceiling. The frosted cone throws light upward to wash back down over the whole desk, soft and shadowless, and the telescoping column lets the sitter set that wash exactly where the work is. It was glare management as elegant engineering, and it made these uplighters the thinking person's desk lamp of the era.
This lamp is in the French Art Deco Mazda taste: a frosted glass cone on a turned column of warm mahogany-toned wood, rising from a stepped, domed chrome foot with its push-button switch at the base — and the column telescopes at the knurled chrome collar, adjusting the height from 40 to 55.5 centimetres. Run the height through its range and notice the knurled ring that locks it: an engineer's detail on a decorator's object, exactly the marriage that defines the best Deco lighting. The lamp is fully rewired to current standards through our workshop before dispatch, fitted with the appropriate plug or adapter for your country, and delivered working and ready to use.
The chrome, wood, and glass present well, with age-consistent wear to the surfaces, as the photographs show. Whoever set this lamp's height to their work before you kept it in service. It belongs on a desk, a bureau, or a hallway console.
The lamp adjusts from 40 to 55.5 centimetres and stands on a stepped chrome foot, rewired before dispatch. It arrives professionally packed and fully insured — worldwide shipping and US import duties are included. For other destinations, local import taxes and duties may apply and are payable by the recipient. Returns are accepted within 30 days.
