Ceramic Column Table Lamp, Red and Gold, Art Deco Style, Attributed to Ugo Zaccagnini, Italy 1950s

Florence's ceramic workshops spent much of the 20th century building a name on hand-painted work, where a piece is thrown or cast, bisque-fired, then hand-painted before a final firing sets the glaze — and gold leaf detailing is applied separately, brushed on in thin sheets and burnished so it catches light without ever looking uniform from one piece to the next. This ceramic column table lamp, attributed to Ugo Zaccagnini's Florence workshop, carries exactly that hand-painted ceramic character: no two pieces from the same mold ever finished quite alike.

The form is a neoclassical column reduced to lamp scale — a deep red cylindrical shaft banded in gold leaf, rising from a tiered square base finished in the same red and gold with a raised laurel and foliage emblem on the front panel. It's an Art Deco style piece rather than a period Art Deco original, closer in spirit to the confident, gilded Hollywood Regency look that Italian ceramics leaned into through the mid-century. A brass fitting at the top takes a standard bulb; no shade is included, so you choose your own.

The lamp presents in very good vintage condition, with the hand-painted red and gold detailing intact and a small chip to the glaze at one base corner consistent with age and handling. The ceramic body and gold leaf hold their color well, with no cracks or losses to the raised relief work.
