Glass Table Lamps Pair, Aqua Pressed Glass and Brass Bedside Lamps on Mirror Bases — French, 1940s
In the France of the 1940s, a distinctive school of small lamp-making stacked thick pressed glass into jewel-like columns and stood them on discs of mirror — so that the lamp lit itself twice, once through the glass and once in its own reflection. The style, made famous by the Parisian ateliers working around Maison Bagués and their contemporaries, was built for the dressing table and the bedside: small lamps designed to sparkle at close range.
This pair is French, from the 1940s: each lamp a column of thick pressed glass in a pale aqua tint — two deeply lobed spheres stacked between polished brass balls, over a gilt petal collar cast as a flower, on a fluted glass foot — the whole standing on a round bevelled mirror base, dressed with a pleated white shade. Look into the glass where the lobes deepen — the colour lives in the thickness, palest at the edges and gathering to sea-glass green at the core, which is how tinted pressed glass declares its depth against surface-coloured imitations. Both lamps take B22 bayonet bulbs, are fully rewired through our workshop before dispatch with twisted cloth-covered cord, and arrive working and ready to use.
The glass, mirrors, and brass are in fine order on both, with light age-consistent wear, as the photographs show. Whoever kept this pair sparkling on their nightstands before you kept both mirrors unbroken. They are made for bedside tables, a dressing table, or a mantel pair.
The pair is pressed glass, brass, and mirror with shades included, rewired before dispatch. It arrives professionally packed and fully insured — we handle the paperwork and worldwide shipping, with all import duties paid by us, so there is nothing to settle on delivery.
