Pair of Louis XVI Style Two-Arm Wall Sconces, Gilt Metal with Urn Finials, Four Red Clip-On Shades with Gold Braid

Four small red shades, trimmed in gold braid, glow above a pair of gilded arms on the wall. The effect is warm, formal and a little theatrical, like the salon of a French country house. They are lights that dress a room for the evening.

Each sconce has a tapering, fluted gilt metal backplate with an urn finial at the top and a leafy pendant at the base. From the backplate, two scrolled arms curve outward, each ending in a leaf-cast drip pan and candle cup fitted with a cream candle sleeve. Each light carries a red clip-on shade edged top and bottom with gold braid. The tapering, fluted backplate topped with an urn borrows from classical architecture: Louis XVI designers treated even a wall light as a small column.

The pair is in very good vintage condition. Our workshop fully rewires both and replaces the two cracked candle sleeves before they leave. The pair comes complete with its four red shades. Hung on either side of a fireplace, a mirror or a bed, they give a warm, glowing light and a strong classical frame.
