Shield-Shaped Glass Wall Sconce with Graniglia Texture, Amber Ruffled Rim, Glass Leaves and Flower, 30 cm
In the second half of the twentieth century, Italian glass lighting turned the wall sconce into a small piece of glass sculpture. Instead of metal arms and separate shades, the whole light was made of glass: curved panels, ruffled rims, and applied leaves and flowers, all held on simple brass fittings. When switched on, the entire piece glowed.
This wall sconce is in that tradition. A curved shield of clear glass, ribbed in diagonal swirls, forms the main shade. Its surface is covered in a fine, frosty texture made of tiny grains of glass, a finish Italian glassmakers call graniglia, which scatters light into a soft sparkle. Along the top runs a ruffled rim in warm amber glass. Two curving glass leaves rise from either side, and a clear glass flower with a gilt centre sits at the front. Small brass-tone knobs hold the glass pieces in place.
The sconce is in good condition, as pictured. It brings a soft, glamorous glow to a bedroom, a dressing room or a hallway, and it is just as decorative when switched off.
In short, this is a shield-shaped glass wall sconce with a graniglia texture, an amber ruffled rim, glass leaves and a glass flower. It measures 30 × 29 × 10 cm and is exactly as pictured.
