Vintage Art Deco Bronze Panther Sculpture, Stalking Big Cat on Naturalistic Base, Large Animalier Statue, 18.5 Inches Long
Low to the ground, with shoulders hunched and jaw slightly open, this panther is stalking its prey. Every muscle is tensed, from the rippling shoulder blades to the long, coiled tail held close behind. The sculptor used the smooth, simplified volumes typical of Art Deco animal sculpture, letting the line of the body carry the drama rather than fur or fine detail. The panther moves across a flowing naturalistic base, and a deep brown-black patina with lighter highlights covers the whole piece. At over 18 inches long and around 40 pounds, it has real weight and presence on a mantel, a sideboard or a library table.
Condition: Good Vintage Condition, with a natural patina, lighter rubbed areas and surface wear consistent with age, as pictured.
