Ceramic figures glazed in deep colours and gold carried frosted globes above them, so the light itself seemed to hover over the figure: less a reading lamp than a mood, switched on.
This pair is European, dated by design and materials to the 1970s or 80s — presented as the period attributed to them, consistent with everything visible. Each seated Buddha is glazed ceramic in a deep burgundy, the robe's sash, hands, and trim finished in gold lustre, the whole figure supporting a frosted glass globe shade with a cut geometric band. Look at how the burgundy glaze pools darker in the folds of the robe and thins to a brighter red on the raised knees and shoulders — the natural behaviour of a flowing glaze over relief, which gives each figure of a pair its own slightly different depth of colour. The lamps arrive with the appropriate plug or adapter fitted for your country, ready to use.
