Vintage Dolphin Table LampGold-Tone Metal Stylized Dolphin on Round Chamberstick Base with Handle, Hollywood Regency Style

The ancient Greeks told the story of Arion, a celebrated poet and musician. Sailing home with his riches, he was threatened by the crew, who planned to throw him overboard. He asked to sing one last song, then leapt into the sea, and a dolphin, charmed by the music, carried him safely to shore. The tale made the dolphin a symbol of rescue, friendship and good fortune at sea. Artists have shown it ever since, curled and leaping, with its great head and fanned fins.

This small table lamp is built around just such a dolphin. The creature rests its head on a round, shallow base, with wide eyes, flaring fins and an open mouth. Its scaly body twists upward into a fanned tail that supports a flared cup above. The scales are crisply modelled all over, so they catch the light down the whole length of the body. The base is shaped like a chamberstick tray, with a flat handle at the back for lifting. A drip-effect candle sleeve and a bulb holder sit on top. The gold-tone metal is bright, with a soft patina on the base.

The lamp is in good condition. Like every lamp we sell, it is checked in our workshop before it is sent, so it arrives ready to use. Topped with a small shade of your choice, it makes a charming bedside or desk lamp, and it suits a seaside home especially well.

In short, this is a vintage dolphin table lamp in gold-tone metal, with a stylized dolphin on a round chamberstick base with a handle, in the Hollywood Regency style. It is 22 cm tall, sold without a shade, and exactly as pictured.
