Vintage Pair of 1960s French Calla Lily Wall Sconces with Brass-Tone Stems and White Acrylic Shades

Two white flowers on slender crossed stems: in the 1960s, French designers turned the calla lily into a wall light, and this pair is a playful example.

Each sconce has a small black square mount holding two brass-toned stems that cross and curve outward. Each stem ends in a white, cone-shaped shade shaped like an open lily, with a pointed tip at the top. When lit, the shades glow softly from inside. In French these lights are called "arum" sconces, after the lily. The white trumpet of a calla is not really a petal at all. It's a single curled leaf, called a spathe, wrapped around the true flowers in the centre.

The sconces are in very good vintage condition, and the old wiring reaches us as found. They have been kept together as a pair since the 1960s and are ready for a new wall. They suit a bedroom, a living room or a mid-century hallway.

Calla pair in brief: two 1960s French calla lily sconces with crossed brass-tone stems and white acrylic shades, rewired and sold as a pair.
