Vintage Pair of 1960s French Black and Brass-Tone Wall Sconces with White Textured Cone Glass Shades

Black, brass and white was one of the favourite colour schemes in French homes of the 1950s and 1960s. This pair uses all three in a clean, upright design.

Each sconce has a black back plate with a hexagonal black collar and a short brass-toned rod. The rod rises to a round black cup holding a tall white glass shade shaped like a cone. The glass is pressed with a fine wavy pattern that softens the light and hides the bulb. Black lacquered metal against warm brass and white glass was a combination French lighting makers of the period used again and again, because it looked crisp and modern against pale walls.

The sconces are in good vintage condition. The glass shades are clean and whole, but the brass-toned rods are tarnished and the old wiring reaches us as found. They have been kept together since the 1960s and are ready for a new wall. Hang them either side of a bed, in a hallway or above a sideboard.

Cone pair: two 1960s French black and brass-tone sconces with white textured cone glass shades, rewired and sold as a pair.
