Vintage Pair of Brass-Tone Candlesticks with Black Wood Stems
A pair of compact candlesticks in warm brass-tone metal, each with a smooth black stem at its centre. They bring clean, graphic contrast to a dining table, a mantel or a sideboard.
Each candlestick stands on a wide, round, stepped brass-tone base that rises in a smooth trumpet curve to the stem. The stem is a plain black cylinder, capped above by a brass-tone collar and a candle cup with a broad flared lip. The black stems look like ebonised wood: a pale timber stained or treated to a deep black. Furniture makers used the technique for centuries to imitate costly ebony at a fraction of the price.
The pair is in good vintage condition, with a soft sheen to the brass-tone metal. One stem has some damage to the wood. They're ready to hold standard taper candles at many more dinners. Set them at the centre of a table, at either end of a mantel or on a console in a hallway.
Black-stem candle pair: two vintage brass-tone candlesticks with stepped round bases, flared candle cups and black wood stems.
