Vintage Pair of Brass Two-Light Wall SconcesDutch Baroque Style with Ball Body and Scroll Arms, 30 cm

In the seventeenth century, Dutch and Flemish brass founders created one of the most enduring designs in European lighting. Their chandeliers and wall lights combined a large polished brass ball with gracefully curved arms. Painters of the Dutch Golden Age often showed them glowing in their interiors, and the style has been made and loved ever since, from Amsterdam canal houses to American colonial homes.

This pair of wall sconces is in that Dutch Baroque style. Each one has a central brass body with a turned baluster and a large round ball, finished with a small drop below and a ring at the top. Two S-shaped scroll arms, each with a small leaf detail, curve out to hold round bobèches and candle-style lights. The ball was more than decoration: in the original candlelit chandeliers, its polished surface reflected the flames back into the room, adding to the light.

The sconces are in good condition, with a warm patina on the brass. Like every lamp we sell, they are checked in our workshop before they are sent, so they arrive ready to use. They suit a dining room, a hallway or a traditional living room, especially on either side of a fireplace.

In short, this is a vintage pair of Dutch Baroque style brass wall sconces with two lights each, ball bodies and scroll arms. Each is 30 cm tall and 30 cm wide, and they are exactly as pictured.
