Vintage Pair of French Louis XVI Style Gilt Metal Two-Arm Wall Sconces with Fluted Urn Column

Bright gold sconces catch the light even when they're switched off. On a pale wall, this pair reads as a warm accent from across the room.

Each sconce has a central fluted urn with a pointed finial at the top and a matching drop below. Two smooth arms, with acanthus leaves and a line of beading at the shoulder, curve out to the sides. Each holds a round drip pan, edged with beads and backed with acanthus, and a beige candle sleeve with a wax-drip effect. Finials shaped like this are often read as pineapples, which have been a symbol of welcome and hospitality in European and American homes since the 1700s.

The sconces are in very good vintage condition, with slight paint marks on some edges. The old wiring reaches us as found. They have been looked after as a pair and are ready to go up on a new wall. They suit an entry hall, a dining room or either side of a bed.

Fluted-urn pair: two gilt metal two-arm sconces with a fluted urn column, cone finials and beaded drip pans, rewired and sold as a pair.
