Vintage Pair of Louis XVI Style Two-Arm Wall Sconces, Patinated Brass-Tone Metal with Torch Back Plates and Acanthus Arms

Each of these sconces is built around a flaming torch, with two leafy arms sweeping out to hold candle-style lights. Hung as a pair, they frame a mirror or a doorway with a warm, even glow.

Each sconce has a back plate shaped like a torch, ending in a flame finial and a pointed leafy tip, in brass-tone metal with a soft, darkened patina. Two scrolled arms wrapped in acanthus leaves curve out to either side. Each holds a ribbed cup, a round drip pan and a cream candle sleeve. In Louis XVI decoration, the flaming torch was a favourite symbol. It stood for love and for the light of reason, and it often appeared beside bows, quivers and wreaths.

The sconces are in good vintage condition, with an even patina. They will be fully rewired in our workshop before dispatch. They've been looked after well, and they're ready for a new wall. Hang them either side of a mirror, a bed or a fireplace, or along a hallway.

The two sconces: a pair of Louis XVI style two-arm sconces with torch back plates, acanthus arms and cream candle sleeves.
